It was a beautiful day Sunday, Sept 8, 2019, for the annual IEJT Neighborhood Jambalaya lunch at the JT Pool!   Some neighbors picked up lunches drinks & desserts to take home.  Others enjoyed visiting under the covered area at the pool, and a few enjoyed the pool!

Paid members got for each household member a plate of jambalaya, a drink and a dessert.

Here we have Metro Council District 11 Representative Matt Watson chatting with Chris Woodiel & Pat Rusk:

And Board Members Danielle Bowen, Evegeni Ivanov and George Richard serving up plates of jambalaya & sides:

And here we have IEJT Civic Association sponsor Ross Garbarino State Farm being a good neighbor and enjoying meeting the neighborhood!

IEJT Board Meeting July 8, 2019

Posted by Ellen on July 9, 2019 at 11:15 AM

SUMMER YARD OF THE SEASON NOMINATIONS: Nominations are now being accepted for Summer Yard of the Season. Nominations will be accepted through August 1, with an award to be made on August 15.

ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOOD JAMBALAYA: SAVE THE DATE! The annual neighborhood jamabalaya for paid members will be held September 8, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the JT Pool. Paid members can receive one plate of jambalaya and a soft drink per household resident. Non-members can become members by paying the yearly dues at the jamabalaya. Jambalaya provided by Pot & Paddle. We will have a small supply of bags for those wanting to take their lunches home, but if you are able to bring your own bag, it would be so very helpful!

NEWSLETTER: A newsletter will be issued before September and will be delivered BY MAIL. It is simply too hot to have our neighbors delivering these by hand at this time. We will email a pdf copy of the email to all on our email list, and a copy will be put on our Facebook page.

5G Cell Towers: This topic was covered in a separate email.

BOARD COMMUNICATIONS: Due to circumstances beyond her control, the Board Member who was handling communications (email, website, facebook page, communication with Southside) had to resign, and a former board member has agreed to return temporarily.

We therefore are looking for a volunteer to join the board to take over communications. Anyone interested, please contact the board at [email protected]

Thank you!

2019 Spring Yard of the Season

Posted by Ellen on June 3, 2019 at 6:35 AM

The IEJT Civic Association is honored to award Deborah Todd with the Spring 2019 Yard of the Season. Her home at 4913 Cottage Hill Drive is a blooming oasis nestled in Cottage Hill.

Deborah’s front yard boasts highlights of color with unique blooms of the Cocks Combs, red and white vinca and plentiful coleus. The variety found throughout the yard is impressive. Look closely and you will find more treasures: hydrangea, hibiscus lilies, dahlia, lantana, sunpatiens and knock-out roses.

She has designed her back yard to be a peaceful sanctuary, filled with pops of color, a nurtured succulent and herb garden, and palm trees to remind Deborah of her California roots.

Deborah spends countless hours keeping her garden pristine. Her dedication to maintaining this top yard is evident. If you have a chance, be sure to check out this season’s Yard of Season and thank Deborah for showcasing and sharing her colorful garden with the neighborhood.

Deborah was awarded a $25 gift card courtesy of Clegg’s nursery.

2018 Fall Yard of the Season

Posted by Ellen on November 6, 2018 at 6:30 AM

Congratulations to Wendell and Dawn Brumfield, winners of the IEJT Civic Association Fall Yard of the Season award.

On any given day, the Brumfields can be found working in the beautiful gardens surrounding their home at 10644 Cal Road. From the street, you will see the front of the house is lined with Sunshine Ligustrum, Camellias, Variegated Gardenias and Colius. Bachelor Button, Zinnea and Heather flowers blossom throughout, giving the Brumfields' beautifully maintained yard a pop of color. Look closely and you will also spot cotton plants. The beauty continues in the back of their home. Anchored in the middle , a 40 year-old sweet orange tree majestically towers over of their backyard oasis. A vegetable garden, an impressive Cypress tree, and various blooms are scattered around this citrus tree. A banana shrub (Magnolia figo) offers incredible aromatics to this visually pleasing sanctuary.

The Brumfield’s were awarded a $25 gift card courtesy of Clegg‘s Nursery.

2018 Summer Yard of the Season

Posted by Ellen on August 2, 2018 at 6:25 AM

Congratulations to Mrs. Elizabeth Brown for winning the 2018 Summer Yard of the Season award. Beautiful blooming pink zinnias s line the front of the home at 4735 Idlewood, where she and her husband have resided for nearly 50 years. But Mrs. Brown will tell you that her backyard is her haven. Hidden Gingers, Shrimp Plants, Double-bloom Daylilys, and Hydrangeas are merely a few of the diverse varieties of flora that she lovingly tends to in her cherished backyard oasis. A stately Live Oak, sprawling over 90 feet in diameter, planted by the Browns personally in 1975 provides ample shade, so Mrs. Brown can relax on her patio and enjoy viewing the fruits of her labor.

Mrs. Brown was awarded a $25 gift card courtesy of Clegg’s Nursery.

2017 Christmas Lighting Yard of the Season

Posted by Meaghan Beadle on January 9, 2018 at 2:20 PM

Our neighborhood looked so festive over the holiday season!  Our neighbors wowed us with beautiful lighs & fun displays, and Mother Nature even helped out by adding a sprinkle of sneaux to it all!

One neighbor's yard, though, stood out.   The home of Joe & Eva Temple at the corner of Cal & Floynell was a real winter wonderland and brought numerous nominations from the neighborhood.

Congratulatios to Mr & Mrs Temple, who were awarded a $25 gift card courtesy of Clegg's Nursery.
